Of all the young musicians who came through my music class, I could tell you the top ten. Near the top of the list would be Katie H. She was a amazing natural musician although she never believed it herself. One day in a choir rehearsal, Katie was goofing off. I was not in a good mood and I just snapped and yelled at her. I will never forget the look in her eyes. She looked hurt and angry and confused. She sat down on the riser dejected. My heart broke. I knew I was wrong. I asked her to stay after the rehearsal ended. She obliged. When it was just us she glared at me.I apologized for what I did. It took a day or two but soon we were reveling in the making of music again. Be careful what you say to those who love and trust you.
